At the beginning of September, the girls and i did our yearly road trip to the heather field. On the way home, i spied a yellow field in the distance and as we came closer, i realised it was sunflowers! I had been looking for a sunflower field all summer because the one we visited last year was a different crop this year. I was so excited. I did a pretty illegal u-turn on the busy A road and parked in a layby. The girls and i walked to the sunflower field and i just couldn't contain my excitement. I was that excited to get to them, that i left my main camera in the car so i just took some phone pictures.
After a little while, the farmer came over. I was a little worried that i would be in trouble as it was his land, but he was lovely and was pleased we had stopped to admire his field. We spoke a little and he said he had planted them as he loves bee's and wanted to help them this year. I made him promise that he would plant some next year too! He also said that the girls and i took pick some bunches. He was a very lovely farmer and didn't really have to be nice considering we were technically trespassing!
The girls picked the flowers that they wanted to for their own bunches and i picked a few of the old ones that were starting to die so that i could collect the seeds from the heads. That evening, i sat and harvested the seeds and put them into little envelopes, ready to plant in the garden and, hopefully, start out own little patch in the garden.
