Pumpkin picking

Last year, we found a pumpkin field near the heather. It wasn't a pick your own and we weren't really allowed in it, but me and the girls jumped a fence and took some quick pictures in it. This year, when we went back to the heather, the field was wheat instead of pumpkins. I made it my mission to find a pick your own pumpkin field that i could take the girls too. They are not that popular here in the UK but i knew there must be some and i was willing to drive. I did lots of googling and came across one within an hours drive from us. It opened this week so, yesterday, me and the girls and my mum all drove to the field. I had been so excited all week and i couldn't wait for the girls to experience picking their own pumpkins. We have a yearly tradition of pumpkin carving so, this year, i wanted the girls to be able to pick their own pumpkins to be able to carve.

As we drove, the rain clouds came over and it started to pour. We reached the farm a just as it was opening and the rain was still pouring down. I was a little disappointed because i was so excited but it didn't really matter and the rain bought a beautiful mist which i was grateful for. I love an autumn morning mist. The only negative was that the pumpkin field had a clay soil so as soon as it got wet, it was super muddy and sticky. But, again, we didn't want anything to ruin this for us. It was our first experience at a pumpkin patch and i wanted the girls to have the best time. They both picked what they wanted and put them in the wheelbarrows. We were the only ones in the field and i could see the mist rolling over the hills. It was quite lovely actually.

After our picking, we walked around the farm. The last of the sunflowers were blooming and the girls got to hold a barn owl at the birds of prey display. This is going to be a tradition (we are starting to accumulate a lot of these now) and every year, we are going to pick our own pumpkins. I couldn't think of a better memory for the girls to have each October!
