Watercolours and bluebells

We had a very tough weekend here. Mia came down with a very high fever on thursday night which resulted in her being off school on the friday. Nothing i did would bring it down and we spent every night riding it out together with her in my bed (with lots of repeats of the Charlie and Lola DVD's). On Saturday, she started to come out in a rash all over her body and her temperature just soared. I ended up taking her to the hospital where they then battled to stabilise her temperature as it wouldn't come down from 40.5. She was diagnosed with Scarlet fever and they finally started her on medication. After a little while, the medicine kicked in and her temperature came down a little and we got to come home so she could rest and recover.

On the Sunday morning, she woke up feeling a little better. We both had serious cabin fever so i decided to pack us up a picnic, some books and the water colour paints and we went to the bluebell woods. Mia and i lay in the shade under a tree for a while and Mia had a little nap whilst Elle did her water colour painting on a nearby log. The birds were singing and it was such a sunny day. I knew the fresh air would do Mia the world of good. I believe it is a little mind over matter with children and i kept telling her how much better she was looking and she kept saying she was feeling a lot better being outside. After her nap, she wanted to do some water colour painting with her sister so she sat up on the log with her. They both spent a while painting so i took a few photographs, read one of my flower books and had a little explore around the area we were in. We love this log and Elle sat here last year to sketch in her nature journal. You can see our adventure from last year here.

After they had finished painting, Mia began to flake a little and i needed to get her home to give her her next dose of medication but we had a drive around the countryside first and found a few more places we want to explore.

Mia is now back at school and you wouldn't believe that just a few days ago, she was really poorly! She has bounced back so quickly and i can now finally catch up on some rest and my nerves and sleep pattern have all been shot! I loved this little adventure though. It was slow paced and i think we all needed it. I am hoping the weather is nice next weekend so we can go on another adventure!

  3. Poor Mia, scarlet fever seems to be about round here too. I have lots of found memories of bluebells and picnics from when I was younger.

  5. Such beautiful pictures. I don't know what's Scarlet fever but it sounds awful. My youngest is ill and she's been in my bed for a couple of nights too.

  6. Poor Mia, and poor you too as I know how worrying it can be with things like this. It looks like she had a lovely nap on that blanket though - I quite fancy that myself ;-)
