If you are a long time reader of my blog or follow my Instagram, you will know that one of our favourite Christmas traditions is to go and decorate a lonely tree. We fill a basket with red and gold baubles and find a tree to hang them on (we always take them home afterwards so they do not harm the animals).
The last three years, we have had the adventure after school and have always gone back to the same tree but i have found that the evenings are getting darker a lot quicker this year so decided that we should do it on a weekend. It will give us a lot more time and it meant that we could drive out to a different forest and take our time finding a tree. We drove to a local forest called Salcey forest that we love very much. When we go to these public forests, we like to go off path and have found some beautiful spots that are quiet. We explored the ferns and pine forest and found a bunch of fir tree's. The girls picked out the tree they wanted to decorate and as they started, the heaven's opened! The rain really fell. I told them we didn't have to stay but they wanted. I was a bit sad really as we had really explored deep into the forest and i was really looking forward to this adventure and the rain just wasn't easing.
After they had finished, they went looking for mushrooms under the shelter of the tree's and then we went for a walk along the tree top walk that they love to do. We were thoroughly wet but it didn't really matter as we had a lovely time followed by hot soup at home and a big bubble bath!
This is my favourite activity and tradition that we do. The girls look forward to this one each year and so do i! I am so happy that i made a mini creative film this year. I really hope you like it!
