After picking Buddleia this weekend, we got home with our baskets full and sat down at the table to start making crowns. I put on some Beatrix Potter stories on the record player and the girls got to work. I sat at the end making a little crown with buddleia and ox eye daisies and Elle started out by making a paper picture with leaves, flowers and glitter. Mia gave up making her crown and just played with the glitter on some paper and sprinkled the buddleia flowers into some tiny dolls house baskets i picked up last week.
It is just so lovely to have afternoons like this. The girls chattering like anything about what they are doing and what they want to make and just being able to relax and craft away without any worries. I love making flower crowns and start off with a florist wire base that i twist around the ends to make a circle. I then use little bits of wire to twist around the stems of the flowers to hold them onto the base. I have made crowns before where i have used string and sewn the stems onto the wire base, but when i am making them with the girls, it is quicker and easier to use wire. They really don't last that long anyway, so we like to make the crowns quickly and use the rest of the day to either play with them or to admire them hanging up on the wall with some ribbon or lace. As some of you know, taping up flowers is a must in the pink household!
How idyllic - I love that you listened to Beatrix Potter whilst doing this!
